Reporting to: Academic Manager / Head of Department
Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality English language instruction to students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds, supporting their academic, professional, and personal development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English language lessons (e.g., ESOL/EFL, IELTS preparation, Academic English).
- Assess students’ language levels and tailor teaching to meet individual learning needs.
- Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Prepare students for exams such as IELTS or other recognised English qualifications.
- Develop and adapt teaching materials aligned with curriculum standards.
- Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and performance reports.
- Support students in improving reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
- Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and continuous professional development.
- Ensure safeguarding and welfare standards are upheld at all times.
Teaching & Learning Duties
- Use a variety of teaching methods (interactive, communicative approaches).
- Integrate technology into teaching where appropriate.
- Encourage student participation and independent learning.
- Provide academic support and mentoring where required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or related field.
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., CELTA, TEFL, TESOL).
Essential Experience
- Experience teaching English as a second or foreign language.
- Experience working with international students.
- Experience preparing students for English proficiency exams (e.g., IELTS).
Essential Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons.
- Classroom management skills.
- Ability to assess and track student progress effectively.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- DELTA or equivalent advanced teaching qualification.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in UK further or higher education sector.
- Experience with online teaching platforms.
