JOB DESCRIPTION
Post Title: Mathematics Tutor
Location: JOSBEN International College, UK
Responsible to: Academic Director / Programme Lead.
Deadline: 30th May 2026.
Purpose of the Role
To deliver high-quality mathematics teaching and support to students, helping them achieve academic success, develop confidence, and build problem-solving skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging mathematics lessons (e.g., GCSE, A-level, or equivalent).
- Adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.
- Prepare lesson materials, assignments, and assessments.
- Provide one-to-one or small group support where required.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Assess students’ work and provide constructive feedback.
- Track and monitor student progress against targets.
- Prepare students for exams and coursework requirements.
Student Support
- Identify learners who need additional help and provide tailored support.
- Encourage student motivation, confidence, and independent learning.
- Support students with different educational needs (e.g., SEN, EAL).
Curriculum & Development
- Contribute to curriculum planning and development.
- Stay updated with changes in mathematics curriculum and exam specifications.
Administration
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and achievement.
- Participate in meetings, reporting, and college quality processes.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Follow safeguarding policies and promote student welfare.
- Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications
- Degree in Mathematics or a related field.
- Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd) or willingness to work towards one.
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) or equivalent.
Essential Experience
- Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics.
- Experience working with students aged 16–19 (or relevant group).
- Familiarity with GCSE and/or A-level mathematics curriculum.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
- Strong subject knowledge in mathematics.
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively.
- Good classroom management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to differentiate teaching for varying abilities.
- Competence in using digital learning tools.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in further education or sixth form settings.
- Experience supporting students with SEN or additional needs.
- Knowledge of exam board requirements (e.g., AQA, Edexcel, OCR).
- Experience with online or blended learning environments.
