JOB DESCRIPTION
Post Title: Research Tutor
Location: JOSBEN International College, UK
Responsible to: Academic Director / Programme Lead.
Deadline: 30th May 2026.
- Purpose of the Role
To support students in developing research skills, academic writing, and critical thinking, and to contribute to research-led teaching and academic development within the college.
- Key Responsibilities
- Teaching & Academic Support
- Deliver tutorials, workshops, and seminars on:
- Research methods
- Academic writing and referencing
- Data analysis and project development
- Provide one-to-one academic support and mentoring to students
- Guide students in completing dissertations, assignments, and projects
- Support use of digital learning platforms and research tools
- Research Support
- Assist students in:
- Literature reviews
- Research design and methodology
- Data collection and analysis
- Promote ethical research practices and academic integrity
- Contribute to development of research materials and resources
- Assessment & Feedback
- Mark assignments and provide constructive, timely feedback
- Support formative and summative assessment processes
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate academic records
- Curriculum & Programme Development
- Contribute to development of modules and teaching resources
- Integrate research-led teaching approaches
- Participate in quality assurance and curriculum review
- Administration & Collaboration
- Attend academic meetings, training, and development sessions
- Maintain student records and reports
- Work collaboratively with tutors, lecturers, and support staff
- Professional Development
- Engage in continuous professional development
- Stay updated with developments in research methods and pedagogy
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject
- Master’s degree (or working towards) in a relevant field
- Teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE / HEA Fellowship) or willingness to obtain
Desirable
- PhD or near completion
- Formal training in research methods or statistics
- Experience
Essential
- Experience supporting students in academic or research work
- Experience in teaching, tutoring, or training
- Experience with academic writing and referencing systems
Desirable
- Experience teaching in higher or further education
- Evidence of research output (publications, projects, etc.)
- Experience with diverse or international students
- Skills & Knowledge
Essential
- Strong knowledge of research methodologies (qualitative & quantitative)
- Excellent academic writing and editing skills
- Ability to explain complex concepts clearly
- Strong ICT skills (e.g. MS Office, online learning platforms)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Organisation and time-management skills
Desirable
- Knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g. SPSS, Excel, Power BI)
- Understanding of academic quality assurance processes
